WaterMark - For an appliance to be labeled its manufacturer or distributor must have the appliance tested by an independent approved laboratory for both water efficiency and conformance to the relevant Australian Standard for performance. The results of these tests must then be submitted to Quality Assurance Services, a subsidiary company of Standards Australia, who will award the appropriate Water Conservation Label. The More "A's" The More Water Efficient. For example: a labeled shower hose must produce a comfortable shower when tested to Australian Standard AN/NZS 3662. A shower hose achieving this with less than 9 litres per minute will receive a "AAA" rating: A 9-12 litre hose a "AA" rating and a 12-15 litre hose an "A" rating. The scheme currently covers Clothes Washers, Dish Washers, Shower Roses, Toilet Suites, Taps and Commercial Urinals. Other water using appliances will be added to the scheme in the future. The scheme is primarily targeted at domestic devices as domestic water consumption accounts for 80% of all potable water use in urban Australia. Reducing domestic water consumption will assist in protecting the environment by reducing our interference with the natural water cycle.
